Vision for Life - Eye clinic for children

Neluwa district secretariat division situated in the district of Galle in the southern province of Sri Lanka is the poorest divisional secretariat where 67% of the population falls below the poverty line, earning an income less than USD 25 per month (WVL Neluwa ADP Project Design Document, 2013).

Families living in the estate communities in Sri Lanka are among the most marginalized in the country. They work daily-waged jobs as tea-pluckers or labourers and face many challenges due to poor income, lacking access to education, welfare services and healthcare. Children and families in 20 Grama Niladhari Divisions (GND) (village level governance divisions) in Neluwa have to make their way to the Karapitiya hospital approximately 54 kms away to receive medical support for eye-sight issues. The last medical camp in the area for children was conducted in 2017.

Therefore, World Vision Lanka partnered with Lions Club Moratu Eliya Diamond Stars to support these children by providing doctors to perform eye examinations and vision tests. Raised funds will be utilized to organize the clinic and provide spectacles for children in need.
